Aprilya has been quietly turning out some of our favourite fan-art of the year. We grabbed them for a quick chat about process, reference, and how they approach a character they've never seen in-game before.
On first impressions
“The Guardian's silhouette is so readable — I wanted to capture that 'I am a wall' feeling without making him feel slow.
Aprilya works mostly from silhouettes first, then colour-blocks before any line-work. 'If the shape doesn't read at 40 pixels, nothing I add later is going to save it.' It's a rule we quietly stole for the Guardian's armour silhouette.
