Edge Presets

Geometry chooses where. Your preset chooses what gets painted.

Place authored highlights, chips, broken rims, and contact seams on eligible model edges.

7 min read

The model supplies eligible edges. The selected pattern supplies the painted result.

01

Apply an Edge

  1. 1

    Keep the paint layer selected

Use the ordinary layer that already contains the useful local shades.

  2. 2

    Switch to Edges

Open the Presets panel and switch from Surfaces to Edges.

Paint sidebar > Presets > Edges

  3. 3

    Drag onto the target

Drop a card onto the model. Hold Shift while dropping to target only the face under the pointer.

02

Eligible geometry

  • Convex exposed edges can receive outer highlights, dark rims, or chips.
  • Concave folds and exact contacts between separate parts can receive inner seams.
  • Open and non-manifold mesh boundaries are skipped by default.
  • Shared UV pixels can hold only one deterministic result.

03

Create your own Edge

  1. 1

    Prepare the strip

Paint or import a grayscale-and-alpha rectangle from 1x1 through 32x32 pixels.

  2. 2

    Select the source

Keep the rectangle inside one animation frame and include visible dark, light, or transparent pattern detail.

  3. 3

    Describe the placement

Choose exposed edges, inner seams, or both, then set the repeat direction and inward depth.
